Being able to rescue bad beginnings is the sign of a truly creative mind.Ĥ. Go back later, change it, and make it into something else. Make every square inch count for something.ģ. Do not make dinky little drawings in the center of the page. Let your hand follow your feelings, not what your brain is telling you to do.Ģ. Make imperfect drawings make mistakes make false starts. If you do a really great cover, digital or not, it could end up a portfolio piece!! See below for grading rubricġ. Again, how do they connect to you as a person? It is possible to make a digital cover on the computer and then print it and paste it onto your book cover. Make a statement, a visual metaphor to say something about WHY you like these things.

Don’t just paste on pictures of what you like. Again, try to avoid obvious, un-creative solutions. Use the cover to make a visual statement about who you are, what makes you unique and creative. Which really reflect YOU as a person/artist? Go beyond the obvious collage of pictures of you and your friends. Think about the font(s) that you have available. Cut out letters from magazines, newspapers, junk mail, and computer printouts work great. Your name needs to be CLEARLY and thoughtfully incorporated into the composition of the cover. Your altered book cover needs to reflect you, the user and creator of the book. Any extra time you need for the cover must happen on your own time. You may use any materials available in the classroom. You will have two days at the beginning of school to personalize your altered book’s cover. You may bring one from home, buy one at a thrift shop (get a bag of books for $1-$2 at The Clothes Tree), get an old discarded book from the Wamogo library, or use one from my collection.
